A message from the MCSL Executive Board

October 18, 2020

The Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL) is fortunate to be located in one of the most diverse areas in the country. With more than 13,000 swimmers participating in our league each summer, we rank among the largest and most successful programs in the country. Our diversity is one of our great strengths. The MCSL, as it has for many years, remains committed to providing a safe and fair environment for each swimmer to achieve his or her best.

Recent events have demonstrated the challenges that we face as a diverse community. The unnecessary deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and too many others highlight the serious challenges faced by Black Americans in our Society. MCSL joins with many voices in the United States to state unequivocally that Black Lives Matter and calls for an end to racial injustice and violence.

We also recognize that the sport of swimming is not exempt from racial animus, either historically or in the present time. The MCSL Board joins with USA Swimming, Potomac Valley Swimming, and many other swimming groups across the country to reaffirm our commitment to reject racial bias, and uphold the highest standards of sportsmanship while expecting the same from each of our members.

As a swimmer, parent, volunteer, coach, or official in MCSL, each of you has a voice in how our league operates as well as a responsibility to make all aspects of our league equitable and inclusive. We encourage our community to share their thoughts, suggestions, criticisms, and praise as we continually work to make MCSL the best it can be. Together we will lead the way to a better future for our community. Please feel free to contact us via email at board@mcsl.org.
